#44: NFL Week 5 Recap + CFB: Patriots Back, Arch Manning Flops

Patriots Shock Buffalo in Prime Time: Are They Actually Back?

The New England Patriots pulled off one of the biggest surprises of Week 5, defeating the Buffalo Bills in prime time behind rookie quarterback Drake Maye. After weeks of struggling, the Patriots finally showed signs of life, and Maye’s performance has fans cautiously optimistic about the future.

With this division win already in hand, New England has a legitimate shot at a wild card spot. The schedule softens up considerably, and if Maye continues to develop, the Patriots could be playing meaningful football in January. Not bad for a team most had written off before the season even started.

Texans Demolish Ravens 44-10: What’s Wrong in Baltimore?

In their first-ever win in Baltimore, the Houston Texans absolutely dismantled the Ravens 44-10. Even with Baltimore playing backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, a 34-point beatdown is embarrassing no matter who’s under center.

The Ravens now sit at 1-4, and the panic button is starting to look awfully tempting. Sure, they’ve faced tough opponents like the Bills, Lions, and Chiefs, but losing this badly at home raises serious questions about the team’s identity and coaching adjustments.

Can the Ravens Still Win the AFC North?

Despite the ugly record, Baltimore still has a path to winning the division. The AFC North isn’t exactly stacked this year; the Bengals are struggling without Joe Burrow at full health, the Browns are being the Browns, and the Steelers are inconsistent. If Lamar Jackson can return to MVP form, the Ravens could easily rattle off wins and climb back into contention.

Jets Dysfunction Reaches Peak Levels

The New York Jets’ spiral continues, and it’s getting harder to watch. At some point, ownership needs to look in the mirror and realize they’re the common denominator in decades of failure. You can’t keep cycling through coaches, quarterbacks, coordinators, and general managers without acknowledging the real problem starts at the top.

Jets fans are stuck watching Josh Allen and now Drake Maye dominate the division for the foreseeable future. After surviving 20 years of Tom Brady, this has to feel like cruel and unusual punishment.

Cardinals’ Embarrassing Loss to the Titans

The Arizona Cardinals found a new way to lose in Week 5, fumbling the ball before crossing the goal line against the Tennessee Titans. After leading 21-3 in the fourth quarter, Arizona managed to blow it completely, losing 22-21.

Between the infamous fumble-through-the-end-zone touchback and a botched snap, this game was a masterclass in how not to close out a victory. Maybe there’s some karmic justice at play after the team allowed a funeral to be held on their field earlier this season.

College Football: Arch Manning Exposed and Texas Gets Humbled

Texas Longhorns Crushed by Florida

As a top-10 team, Texas got absolutely embarrassed by Florida in the Swamp. The Longhorns fell out of the top 10 entirely, and the Arch Manning hype train officially derailed. Manning’s decision-making was poor, his accuracy was off, and the offense looked completely out of sync.

For a quarterback who was supposed to be the next generational talent, Manning has been wildly underwhelming. Playing 2A high school football doesn’t prepare you for SEC defenses, and it’s showing. With games against Oklahoma, Georgia, and Texas A&M still on the schedule, things could get uglier before they get better.

Houston Cougars Fall to Texas Tech

In a heartbreaking loss, the Houston Cougars couldn’t get past Texas Tech, dropping a winnable game and effectively ending any playoff hopes. The Big 12 schedule doesn’t get easier, and with losses already piling up, Houston will need to go nearly perfect the rest of the way to have a shot at postseason play.

Miami Hurricanes: The Real Number One?

While chaos reigns everywhere else, the Miami Hurricanes keep rolling. At this point, Miami has a stronger résumé than Ohio State and deserves serious consideration for the top spot in the rankings. They’re dominant, consistent, and playing championship-level football.

Notre Dame Doesn’t Deserve Top 25

Here we go again. Notre Dame sits at 3-2 and is somehow ranked 16th in the AP Poll. Meanwhile, six teams with five or more wins are ranked below them. The favoritism is blatant, and it’s getting harder to ignore.

Without a conference championship to prove themselves, Notre Dame continues to benefit from name recognition and media bias. Until they join a conference or stop getting special treatment, this will remain one of college football’s biggest frustrations.

Fantasy Football: Wins, Losses, and Lineup Chaos

Week 5 was a mixed bag for fantasy managers. Some finally got their first win of the season; against opponents who forgot to set their lineups. Others watched key players underperform while facing the highest-scoring teams in their league.

Injuries continue to wreak havoc, and tough lineup decisions are becoming weekly headaches. But that’s fantasy football, equal parts strategy, luck, and prayer.

MLB Playoffs: Aaron Judge Struggles Continue

The MLB postseason is heating up, but Aaron Judge’s October woes continue. Despite another MVP-caliber regular season, Judge has been ice-cold when it matters most. If the Yankees can’t get production from their best player, their championship hopes are in serious jeopardy.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking unstoppable, and a back-to-back World Series title feels inevitable at this point.
