NFL Week 3 Chaos: Tush Push Controversy, Patriots Turnovers, and Texans Woes
Week 3 in the NFL did not disappoint, and Episode 43 of Sports Shots Pod is packed with hot takes. We kick things off with the much-debated Eagles tush push, a play that continues to divide fans and opponents. Is it unstoppable or unfair? Either way, it was a big talking point this week.
The Patriots vs. Steelers matchup gave us one of the strangest stat lines of the week. Despite forcing five turnovers, New England still managed to lose. Costly mistakes from Rhamondre Stevenson and rookie quarterback Drake Maye kept the Pats out of the win column, leaving fans frustrated with what could have been.
Meanwhile, down in Houston, Texans fans are starting to worry about CJ Stroud. Stroud continues to face pressure behind a shaky offensive line, and the lack of a consistent run game is exposing the offense. With the team falling to 0-3, the question has to be asked: is it time to worry about the Texans’ future this season?
Fantasy Football Fallout
Fantasy owners had plenty to groan about in Week 3. Injuries to key players like CeeDee Lamb and Derrick Henry’s inconsistent production caused chaos across leagues. Add in defenses like the Vikings putting up huge points, and it was a rollercoaster weekend for fantasy managers everywhere.
The Colts, Chargers, and Bucs Stay Undefeated
Not many people had the Colts, Chargers, and Buccaneers staying perfect through three weeks, but here we are. The Chargers are showing early flashes of the “Harbaugh effect,” while Baker Mayfield continues to pull off clutch fourth-quarter comebacks for Tampa Bay. And then there’s Indianapolis, sitting pretty at 3-0 with Daniel Jones under center. These are the kinds of storylines that make September football so unpredictable.
College Football Rivalry Week Rants & Arch Manning’s Tune-Up
It wasn’t just the NFL making headlines. College football rivalry week gave us plenty to debate. Should these marquee games really be played so early in the season? The atmosphere may be electric, but some fans feel it takes away from the drama of late-season matchups.
One player who needed a confidence boost was Arch Manning, and he got it against Sam Houston. Throwing three touchdowns and adding two more on the ground, Arch reminded Longhorn fans why the hype was real. While it came against a lower-tier opponent, the performance was exactly what he needed to get back on track.
Astros Collapse and Mariners Surge
And then there’s the heartbreak in Houston. After dominating much of the season, the Astros collapsed down the stretch, getting swept at the worst possible time. The result? Houston loses its division streak, its playoff streak, and its chance to make a deep October run. Meanwhile, the Mariners surge forward, claiming their first division title in decades.
As tough as it is for Astros fans to swallow, the conversation now shifts to the future. Retooling the rotation, bringing in fresh bats, and addressing injuries will be critical if Houston wants to bounce back in 2026.
